The UWF volleyball team will enter the 2019 season as the only GSC team ranked and one of four regional teams ranked in the top 25. The Argos were tabbed No. 24 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason top 25 poll that was announced earlier today on Tuesday.
The Argos are set to face many of these other top ranked teams in the first two weeks of the season. For the Argos opening tournament, the Springhill Suites Invitational, they will be hosting No. 3 Western Washington and No. 13 Wheeling Jesuit.
The following week, they will travel to Denver, Colorado for the Colorado Premier Challenge and are set to face off against No. 5 Concordia St. Paul and No. 13 Ferris State.
UWF is one of four teams in the top 25 preseason poll in the South Region. From the Sunshine State Conference, the 2018 National Champions the University of Tampa, comes in at the top ranked No. 1 in the poll followed by Palm Beach Atlantic at No. 15, and just trailing them is Barry at No. 16.
The West Florida volleyball team also has two scrimmages scheduled before the season kicks off. The first will be this Saturday, August 24th vs Valdosta State from 11:30-2 pm. Anyone is invited to come watch the Argos scrimmage as they prepare for the season. The second scrimmage will be on Saturday, August 31st vs Alumni 10-1 pm.
The Argos season will officially begin in three weeks at home in the Springhill Suites Invitational against No. 3 Western Washington on Thursday, September 5, with first serve at 6 PM. Friday UWF is set to play Spring Hill at 11:30 am and later in the day they will face Florida Tech at 4:30 pm. Saturday the team will close out the tournament against No. 13 Wheeling Jesuit at 3 pm.
